IWLCA Team Academic Awards
IWLCA Academic Honor Roll

July 26, 2017 -
For the eighth time in its nine years of varsity competition, the North Central College women's lacrosse team has been recognized as an All-Academic Team by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA), and four members of the team have been selected to the IWLCA's Academic Honor Roll as well.

A total of 308 collegiate teams met the IWLCA's requirement of a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average to make the All-Academic list, including 143 NCAA Division III programs. North Central is one of five College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) teams to meet the criteria, joined by Carroll University, Carthage College, Elmhurst College and Illinois Wesleyan University.

North Central seniors Anicia Mattingly, Nikki Merriss, Kat Schultz and Emily Zadny have each made the Academic Honor Roll for the second straight year. To qualify, student-athletes must be a junior, senior or graduate student and carry a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or greater. A total of 532 student-athletes from 159 institutions made this year's Honor Roll.

Mattingly, who recently graduated with majors in athletic training and psychology, was a First Team All-CCIW selection this season as well as North Central's CCIW Merle Chapman Leadership Award recipient, CCIW Jack Swartz Academic All-Conference honoree and NCAA Woman of the Year Award nominee. Mattingly ranked second on the team in caused turnovers (25) and third in ground balls (37) this season.

Zadny, a sport management major, was a Second Team All-CCIW selection this season and ranked third on the team in goals scored (38) and second in assists (14) and ground balls (39). Schultz, a psychology major, was the Cardinals' starting goalkeeper for 48 of 51 games the past three seasons and owns North Central's career records for save percentage (.438) and goals-against average (9.59), while Merriss, also a psychology major, tallied 12 goals and five assists as a starter in 12 of the Cardinals' games this season.

Members of the North Central program have earned 24 Academic Honor Roll distinctions since beginning varsity play in 2009. The Cardinals claimed four of the CCIW's 11 representatives on the Honor Roll this season.

The Cardinals finished the 2017 campaign with an overall record of 10-8.
