KENOSHA, Wis. (Feb. 14, 2018) – The North Central College women's basketball team's attempt of a season sweep of Carthage College fell short on Wednesday night inside Tarble Arena, dropping a 92-56 decision to the Lady Reds.
North Central kept the game close over the course of the first quarter, as a three-pointer from
Hannah Vitkus and a layup from
Lyndsay Brennan knotted the score 21-21.
That proved to be as close as the Cardinals would come to overtaking the lead, as Carthage rattled off nine-straight points to open up a 30-21 advantage with 8:52 to play in the second quarter.
The Lady Reds (17-6, 10-4 CCIW) took a 12-point lead into the intermission and then proceeded to go on a 22-2 run as the wheels fell off for the Cardinal offense.
North Central (5-18, 3-11 CCIW) managed just nine points in each of the third and fourth quarters, as the Lady Reds outscored the Cardinals, 42-18 in the second half.
Maya Walls was North Central's leading scorer, finishing with 11 points, while
Mayson Whipple also finished in double figures with 10.
All five Carthage starters finished in double figures, led by 20 points from each of Madie Kaelber and Bailey Gilbert, while Sammie Woodward and Morgan Harris each finished with 13 and Rachel Szydlowski added 10. Gilbert finished 6-of-6 from three-point range, while leading all players with nine rebounds, while Harris finished with nine assists.
North Central hits the road for the final time this season on Saturday, Feb. 17, making the short trip to Wheaton College with tip-off at 5 p.m. Links to live in-game coverage are available
