2018 D3baseball.com All-America Team
May 23, 2018 – For the fourth-consecutive season, the North Central College baseball team has been represented on the 2018 D3baseball.com All-America team, as
Michael Mateja and
Mike Wisz each earned second team honors.
Mateja becomes just the third player in program history to receive multiple All-American awards, joining Ken Ritter '88 and
Nick Sotiros '17 on the prestigious list. Mateja led the team batting .444 this season, good for eighth on the single-season batting list, while also leading the team with 54 runs scored, 27 walks, four triples and a .534 on-base percentage. Additionally, Mateja finished second on the team with 72 hits, 20 doubles, 112 total bases and a .691 slugging percentage.
Wisz was also name to the second team after leading all of NCAA Division III in RBI with 73, just one shy of tying the program record set by Ritter in 1986. Wisz also led the team with 73 hits, 21 doubles, nine homeruns and a .709 slugging percentage.
This marks the fourth time in program history that the Cardinals have received multiple All-American awards, also achieving the feat in 1987, 1992 and 2017, while bringing the program total to 20 selections all-time.
Earlier this season, Mateja and Wisz were named College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Co-Players of the Year, while each were named first team All-Central Region by D3baseball.com and Mateja was honored as the Central Region Player of the Year for the second-straight season.
North Central qualified for its third-straight NCAA Division III Regional in 2018 after winning back-to-back CCIW Tournament titles and four-consecutive CCIW regular season championships, en route to a 29-14 overall record.
