Dan Mayer's '94 legacy lives on today as holder of numerous school, conference and national records. He was a three-time All-American in cross country and eight-time honoree in track.

In cross country, he won the 1993 NCAA III Championships with a time of 24:29.8. With his first-place finish, coupled with the placements of the other Cardinal runners, North Central set a record for the lowest team score (32) which still stands today. Mayer was also 12th in 1992 and 12th in 1991 at nationals.

In track, his 1994 10,000-meter time set the national record which still stands. Mayer was two-time national champion in both the 5,000 and 10,000 meters at the NCAA III Outdoor Championships in 1993 and 1994. In 1993, he posted times of 14:22.37 in the 5,000 and 29:27.21 in the 10,000. In 1994, his times were 14:20.49 and 28:53.22, respectively. He also set a national record in the 5,000 meters at the 1994 NCAA Indoors with a time of 13:53.17.

At the conference level, Mayer was 1993 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin cross country champion while finishing second in 1992, third in 1991 and fourth in 1990. In track, he still holds the conference record in the 10,000 meters (29:43.9) set in 1993 and was also 5,000-meter champion in 1994.
