Tim McCoskey '01 was a four-time NCAA Division III national champion and the youngest inductee into the North Central College Athletic Hall of Fame when honored in 2006. In his career, McCoskey won the 1500-meter indoor and outdoor track titles, the cross country title in 1999; and as a member of the indoor distance medley relay team in 2000.
He clocked a 24:47.8 at cross country nationals in the fall of 1999, followed by posting a 3:52.79 in the 1500 at the NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships in the winter of 2000. In the spring of 2000, he ran a 3:51.12 at the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, where he was also part of the distance medley relay team that set a national record with a time of 10:00.13.
McCoskey won eight total All-American honors in his career, including the outdoor 800 meters in 2000, the indoor 1500 meters in 1999, and for cross country in 1998 and ’99.
McCoskey was named the NCAA Athlete of the Year three times as a senior for the 1999-2000 academic year. He earned the honor for cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field. He was also voted Academic All-America by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
“His accomplishments speak volumes,” said coach Al Carius. “To be recognized three times as the best in all of NCAA Division III is quite a statement. He was a tough, tough competitor with incredible passion and desire. An athlete like that does not come along very often.”
