Cardinals fall 3-1 to Elmhurst

ELMHURST, Ill. (Oct. 1, 2008) – Elmhurst College men's soccer team built themselves a 2-0 lead, holding on for the 3-1 victory over North Central College in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin match at Langhorst Field in Elmhurst. Nico Galto (Fr., Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville South) scored North Central's lone goal, pushing his season total to a team-high six.

Jake Pahr struck in the 23rd minute for the Blue Jays, converting off a rebounding shot by Jacob Misel. Elmhurst would hold the one goal lead until the 57th minute when Jon Brehm connected on a penalty kick to give the Blue Jays the two-goal cushion. Galto and the Cardinals would finally get on the board in the 62nd minute, with Galto scoring off his own rebounded shot. John Brehm would score in the 89th minute for Elmhurst to push their lead back to two goals.

Mike McEvoy (Fr., Buffalo Grove, Ill./Buffalo Grove) notched seven saves in the losing effort, six of which came in the first half. McEvoy's counterpart, Sebastian Domczewski recorded six saves, playing all 90 minutes in goal.

With the loss, North Central drops to 7-3 overall and 0-2 in CCIW action while Elmhurst improves to 9-2 overall and 1-0 in conference. The Blue Jays have now won all five contests between the two schools since the series started in 2004. The Cardinals return to the field on Saturday, October 4 when the team faces North Park University, looking to notch their first conference win of the season.
