Oct. 14, 2008—Illinois Wesleyan University took advantage of North Central College first half miscues, defeating the Cardinals 2-0 in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin men's soccer match.

The Titans got on the board early, with Spencer Nedved scoring unassisted in the fifth minute, chipping the ball over the goalkeeper's head. It would remain a one goal game until 14 seconds before halftime when a Cardinal defensive breakdown allowed Paolo Michelini to settle and shoot the ball uncontested from 25 meters out to bump the Titan's lead to 2-0.

Phillip Klipp (Fr., Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah) made his second career start in goal for the Cardinals, recording five saves in 45 minutes of work. Mike McEvoy (Fr., Buffalo Grove, Ill./Buffalo Grove) came into the game in relief at halftime and posted a scoreless second half, grabbing five saves. Win Fischer and Frank Gorg shared time in goal for the Titans, each notching three saves in 45 minutes of work.

Tuesday night's game was the second straight match the Cardinals have pitched a second half shutout. The team held Millikin University scoreless in the final 45 of play in their game on Saturday in Decatur, Ill.

North Central drops to 7-6 overall and 0-5 in CCIW play with the loss while Illinois Wesleyan improves to 5-6-1 overall and 3-1 in conference. The Cardinals return to action on Friday when they host Moody Bible Institute for Homecoming in a rare midseason non-conference match. Gametime is slated for 5 p.m. at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
