Oct. 20, 2008 - North Central College has swept all three of this week's College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Football Player of the Week Awards, as running back Dominic Sulo (Jr., Oak Forest, Ill./Mt. Carmel) is this week's winner on offense, linebacker Matt Wenger (Jr., Davis, Ill./Dakota) received the honor on defense, and punter Adam Pucylowski (Sr., New Berlin, Wis./Catholic Memorial) was cited on special teams. The CCIW announced its selections on Monday.
Sulo recorded his second straight 100-yard rushing performance, gaining 127 yards on just 17 carries (7.5 yards per carry) in North Central's 31-24 win over Carthage on Saturday. He accounted for all 65 yards in the Cardinals' first scoring drive on four rushes, including a 32-yard touchdown run. Sulo also gained 34 yards on four attempts in North Central's drive toward a game-winning score in the fourth quarter.
Wenger posted a career-high 18 tackles (nine solo) in the Cardinals' win. North Central limited the most productive passing offense in Division III to 228 yards, nearly 170 yards below Carthage's season average, and held the Red Men to 56 rushing yards on 31 attempts (1.8 yards per carry). Wenger made two tackles for a loss of 22 yards, a quarterback sack for a loss of nine yards, as well as a pass break-up. He has led North Central in tackles in every game so far this season.
Pucylowski averaged 45.2 yards on four punts, with a long of 52 yards on Saturday. He pinned the Red Men inside their own 20-yard line twice, with his first punt forcing Carthage to take possession on its own one-yard line.
Wenger is the CCIW's only three-time Player of the Week this season. Pucylowski has now been so honored twice in the past three weeks, while Sulo joins quarterback Aaron Fanthorpe (Jr., Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) as an Offensive Player of the Week Award winner.
The seventh-ranked Cardinals (6-0, 3-0 CCIW) travel to face fourth-ranked Wheaton College (Ill.) on Saturday. Kickoff at McCully Field is scheduled for 7 p.m.
