Oct. 21, 2008 – The North Central College volleyball team was able to close out College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin regular-season play with a dominant victory on Tuesday, blanking the North Park University Vikings, 3-0, on Parents Night and Senior Night at Gregory Arena.
Despite winning the match in straight sets, the Cardinals (18-9, 5-2 CCIW) were forced to fight for each of the three victories, prevailing by scores of 26-24, 25-21, and 25-23. North Central scored five of the final six points in the second set, then withstood a late 5-0 rally by the Vikings (17-10, 0-7) to complete the shutout.
Crystal Wright (Fr., Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) turned in a match-high 14 kills for the Cardinals, while Amy Bruns (Jr., Addison, Ill./Addison Trail) and Jessica Eggert (Sr., Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove North) adding seven kills each. Eggert was honored in Senior Night ceremonies prior to the match.
Anna Wirtz (So., Machesney Park, Ill./Harlem) contributed 20 digs to the North Central effort, with Wright adding 15 and Eggert totaling 10. Stephanie Ryding (Jr., Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) tallied 30 assists and Bruns finished with four total blocks.
The Cardinals travel to the Elmhurst College (Ill.) Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
