ELMHURST, Ill. (Oct. 25, 2008) – The North Central College volleyball team managed a 2-2 record in four matches over the weekend, as the Cardinals participated in the Elmhurst College Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
North Central (20-11) completed a sweep of its Friday matches, defeating the University of Chicago, 3-0, and the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, 3-1. On Saturday, however, the Cardinals were beaten, 3-2, by St. Norbert College (Wis.) before closing the weekend with a 3-1 loss to Judson College (Ill.)
The Cardinals had little trouble with Chicago, cruising to a straight-sets win, 25-13, 25-19, 25-21. North Central took an early 2-0 lead against UW-River Falls, 25-21 and 25-19, then lost the third set, 25-21, before ending the match with a 25-19 fourth-set victory.
North Central also held a 2-0 lead against St. Norbert after winning the first two sets, 25-22 and 26-24. The Green Knights battled back to take the third set, 25-20, then dominated the final two frames, 25-11 and 15-5. Judson won its first set against the Cardinals, 25-18, before losing the second, 25-20. North Central was beaten in the next two sets, 25-22 and 25-20.
The Cardinals are off until the Benedictine University (Ill.) Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
