CHICAGO, Ill. (Oct. 4, 2008) -- The North Central College men's soccer teams' conference woes continued on Saturday night, falling 3-0 to host North Park University for their third straight loss within the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.
Kristoffer Grahn opened up the scoring in the game for the Vikings, with a goal in the 32nd minute off a Steve Hosch pass. North Park would take the 1-0 lead into the locker room with neither team generating much of an offensive attack; there were just two shots on goal in the first half, all of which came from North Park.
The Vikings started off the second half quickly, netting the games second goal just 2 minutes and 32 seconds into the second, thanks to a Kevin Gathje unassisted goal. The Vikings would tack on their third and final goal in the 68th minute when Isaac Lee would find the back of the net off a Sebastion Pilat pass.
Phillip Klipp (Fr., Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah) made his first start in goal for the Cardinals, making one save and allowing one goal, playing the first 45 minutes of the game. Mike McEvoy (Fr., Buffalo Grove, Ill./Buffalo Grove) finished out the game for North Central, stopping seven shots and allowing two goals in the final 45. Joe Cindric made the start for the Vikings in goal, seeing no action in the first 45 and was replaced by Gustav Skogens in the second half who made three saves to preserve the shutout.
North Park held a 20-7 advantage in shots taken during the game with a 12-3 advantage on shots on goal.
With the loss, North Central falls to 7-4 overall and 0-3 in conference play while North Park improves to 7-5 overall and 2-1 in CCIW action. The team returns to action on Saturday, October 11, for a match against Millikin University in Decatur, Ill.
