Oct. 6, 2008 - North Central College football players Matt Wenger (Jr., Davis, Ill./Dakota) and Adam Pucylowski (Sr., New Berlin, Wis./Catholic Memorial) have been honored as this week's College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively. The CCIW released its selections Monday afternoon.

The pair were honored for their performances in the Cardinals' 31-13 victory over Millikin University (Ill.) at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium on Saturday. Wenger accounted for a game-high 12 tackles (nine solo) and broke up a pass, leading a defense which yielded just 219 total yards and only 23 rushing yards. He has led North Central in tackles in every game this season.

Pucylowski, meanwhile, punted five times for a 36.6-yard average, the longest of which went 45 yards. He pinned Millikin inside its own 20-yard line twice and kept the Big Blue from operating with a short field throughout the contest. Millikin's shortest scoring drive covered 62 yards.

Wenger was also the CCIW's Defensive Player of the Week following the Cardinals' 49-9 victory over Benedictine University (Ill.) on Sept. 22, making him the only player in the conference to be so honored twice this season.

The ninth-ranked Cardinals (4-0, 1-0 CCIW), who have had at least one Player of the Week Award winner following each of the past three games, travel to North Park University (Ill.) on Saturday. Kickoff at the Holmgren Athletic Complex is scheduled for 1 p.m.
