LISLE, Ill. (Nov. 1, 2008) – The North Central College volleyball team swept its final two matches at the Benedictine University Eagle Classic, finishing the weekend with a 3-1 record and tying for second place in the six-team field.
The Cardinals (23-12) posted a 3-0 victory over Adrian College (Mich.), 25-14, 25-15, 25-12, to begin Saturday's action, then added a second 3-0 win over Carroll College (Wis.), 25-19, 25-19, 25-22. The host Eagles, with a 3-1 record, took first place by virtue of its victories over North Central and Wheaton College (Ill.), each of whom tied for second place with identical 3-1 finishes.
Stephanie Ryding (Jr., Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) was one of six players named to the Eagle Classic All-Tournament Team, turning in 128 assists, 33 digs, and five service aces during the four matches. Crystal Wright (Fr., Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) and Christy Hermann (Jr., Washington, Ill./Illinois Central CC) each finished with 32 kills, while Wright added 26 digs and Hermann totaled eight blocks.
The Cardinals host Wheaton in the opening round of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament on Tuesday. Action at Gregory Arena is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
