Dec. 9, 2008 - The North Central College men's basketball team posted a fourth win in its season-opening six-game homestand on Tuesday, taking charge early and blowing past the Lake Forest College (Ill.) Foresters, 76-40, at Gregory Arena.
The Cardinals (4-2) wasted little time grasping the contest by the throat, sprinting to a 17-2 advantage in the first six minutes of play and never looking back.
Lake Forest staged a modest rally and narrowed the gap to 19-13 with 7:41 to play in the first half, but the hosts responded by stringing together 18 straight points to pull in front, 37-13. The Cardinals headed into the halftime break with a 46-18 advantage.
North Central also dominated the start of play in the second period, scoring the first eight points after the game resumed. The Cardinals led by as many as 44 points late in the game.
North Central, which outrebounded the Foresters, 42-31, and forced 22 turnovers, was led in scoring by Reid Barringer (Jr., Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore), who torched Lake Forest for 25 points in just 25 minutes. He put up 23 points in the first half. Chris Drennan (Sr., Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community) added 19 points, making 8 of 10 shots from the floor, and Matt Rogers (Sr., Rochelle, Ill./Rochelle) put up 15 points on 6 of 9 shooting.
Josh Corso (Sr., Bensenville, Ill./Fenton) totaled game highs of eight rebounds and two blocked shots in just 10 minutes, and Dean Prince (Sr., Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) finished with eight assists.
Jeremy Beyersdorf was Lake Forest's leading scorer with 10 points.
The Cardinals play their first away game of the season on Monday, traveling to Benedictine University. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
