Aug. 31, 2008 - The North Central College men's soccer team held its second straight opponent without a goal Sunday evening, posting a 1-0 victory over Benedictine University (Ill.) in the Cardinals' 2008 home opener at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
The hosts got the only goal they would need with 31:13 left in the first half, as Galin Stoykov (So., Elmhurst, Ill./York) found the back of the net off a pass by Micah Melendrez (Jr., Dixon, Ill./Dixon). Each of North Central's nine goals thus far this season has been scored by a different player.
The Cardinals (2-0) made use of a decided advantage in depth to stay a step ahead of their opposition all evening long. North Central sent 21 players into the game, six more than the Eagles had at their disposal.
Goalkeeper Mikie McEvoy (Fr., Buffalo Grove, Ill./Buffalo Grove) saved four shots on goal to post his second straight shutout.
The Cardinals travel to Lake Forest College (Ill.) on Tuesday. Play is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
