Sept. 22, 2008 - The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin has named North Central College linebacker Matt Wenger (Jr., Davis, Ill./Dakota) its Defensive Player of the Week for games of Sept. 20.

Wenger was the Cardinals' leading tackler in their 49-9 victory at Benedictine University (Ill.) on Saturday, tallying 13 total stops. He also recorded a quarterback sack and an interception as North Central went a second straight week without allowing an offensive touchdown.

Wenger has been the Cardinals' top tackler in both games thus far in 2008, and led the team with 106 tackles last season, when he was a First Team All-CCIW and Third Team All-North Region selection.

North Central (2-0), which is ranked ninth in the nation this week by D3football.com, travels to face Olivet College (Mich.) on Saturday. Kickoff at the Cutler Athletic Complex is scheduled for 6 p.m. Eastern time.
