Sep. 24, 2008 – The North Central College men's soccer team dropped their College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin opener, 3-0, to Carthage College Wednesday night at Benedetti-Wehrli stadium. The Red Men capitalized on Cardinal miscues scoring one goal on a deflection off a North Central player and the other two off of penalty kicks.
Carthage got on the board in the 13th minute when Jordan Baker drove in a shot that ricocheted off a Cardinal defender. Carthage added another goal in the 22nd minute after the Red Men were awarded a penalty kick after North Central was flagged for a tackle in the box. Mike McEvoy (Fr., Buffalo Grove, Ill./Buffalo Grove) stopped the initial penalty kick but Doug Fitzgerald collected the rebound off his own shot, scoring to up the Red Men lead to 2-0. The Red Men would score for the final time in the 88th minute after being awarded a penalty kick. Michael Armour took the shot and scored to ice the game.
The win stops a two-game losing streak for Carthage as they improve to 3-4-2 overall and 1-0 in CCIW action while the Cardinals fall to 7-2 overall and 0-1 in conference action. North Central returns to action on Wednesday, October 1 for a match up against undefeated Elmhurst College.
