Volleyball Drops Four-Set Match to Millikin

Sept. 30, 2008 -- The North Central College volleyball team dropped to 0-2 in home matches this season on Tuesday, falling to Millikin University (Ill.), 3-1, at Gregory Arena.

The Cardinals (12-7, 1-2 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) trailed by as many as five points on three occasions in the first set, but wound up clawing out a 26-24 victory. Millikin, however, returned the favor by posting a 25-23 win in the second set after withstanding a late North Central rally.

The Big Blue (11-6, 3-1 CCIW) dominated the third set, winning, 25-18, then erased a 23-22 deficit in the fourth frame by scoring the final three points of the match to win, 25-23.

Crystal Wright (Fr., Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) hit .312 with 12 kills to lead North Central's attacking efforts, and also finished with 17 digs. Jessica Eggert (Sr., Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove North) put up 10 kills and led the team with 20 digs and two service aces. Stephanie Ryding (Jr., Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) totaled 32 assists and 11 digs.

Kelsy England had a match-leading 13 kills for Millikin, while Albana Gashi recorded five of the team's 17 service aces.

North Central returns to action on Friday, traveling to Wheaton College (Ill.) Play is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
