Sept. 4, 2008 – Mike McEvoy (Fr., Buffalo Grove, Ill./Buffalo Grove) recorded back-to-back shutouts in goal last week for the North Central College men's soccer team, earning College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin defensive player of the week honors. The freshman made his North Central debut in goal on August 29 as the Cardinals dominated Eureka, 8-0. Two days later McEvoy was back in the net, recording four saves in a, 1-0, win over Benedictine. For the week, McEvoy had four saves in 180 minutes of action, allowing zero goals.
The Cardinals added another shutout victory this week, with a, 1-0, win over Lake Forest College on Tuesday, extending McEvoy's shutout streak to three games and 270 minutes. The Cardinals have outscored opponents 10-0 in their first three games and are one win shy of matching last season's win total. The team will put their streak to the test this weekend when they travel to Northfield, Minn. for a match-up against unbeaten Carleton College on Saturday, September 6.
