Box Score
Oct. 13, 2009 -- North Central College scored off the game's first shot and never looked back, cruising to the 2-0 victory over Lake Forest College (Ill.) in a non-conference men's soccer match at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
The Cardinals wasted little time, scoring just one minute and 46 seconds into the contest after a pass from
Nico Galto set up
Pete Zimmerman's sixth goal of the season. North Central looked to have its second goal of the game in the 11th minute before an offside flag wiped away the potential Galto score. Undeterred Galto added an insurance goal in the 27th minute, thanks to assists from
Ryan Carroll and
Galin Stoykov. It was Galto's sixth goal of the season while Carroll notched his team-leading sixth assist of the year.
Neither team scored in the second half as the Cardinals picked up their second shutout of the season.
Making just his third start of the season,
Mike McEvoy made six saves on the night to register his first clean sheet of the year, logging in all 90 minutes in goal. His counterpart Tom Biesiada stopped four shots in the losing effort.
With the win, North Central improves to 6-8 on the season while Lake Forest falls to 5-7-1. The Cardinals return to the pitch on Saturday, October 17, traveling to Rock Island, Ill. to face the Vikings of Augustana College.
