ELMHURST, Ill. (Oct. 17, 2009) - The North Central College volleyball team made quick work of its opposition at the Elmhurst College Invitational on Friday and Saturday, sweeping all four of its matches, including a conquest of a nationally-ranked opponent.

North Central opened play at Elmhurst on Friday, defeating Dominican University (Ill.) and Alma College (Mich.) by identical 3-1 scores. On Saturday, the Cardinals blanked Widener University (Pa.), 3-0, then posted their biggest win of the weekend in their final match, defeating 11th-ranked Calvin College (Mich.), 3-1. It is the first time this season that North Central has defeated a nationally-ranked foe.

With six matches still to play in the regular season, the Cardinals (26-3) have already topped their win total from all of last season and have the opportunity to break the school single-season record of 31 victories, which was set by the 1999 squad.

North Central returns to competition on Friday, hosting College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin rival Wheaton College at Gregory Arena. Play is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
