Oct. 31, 2009 - The North Central College volleyball team completed an unblemished run through the second half of October on Saturday, defeating Monmouth College (Ill.), 3-1, and Grinnell College (Iowa), 3-0, in the second day of the Benedictine University Invitational at Gregory Arena.

The victories pushed the Cardinals' winning streak to 11 consecutive matches and pushed their season record to 32-3, establishing a new school record for victories in a single season.

North Central won its opening set against Monmouth (12-21), 25-22, and led in the second set before a 6-1 run pushed the Scots into the lead. The Cardinals bounced back and took a 22-20 advantage, but the lead was quickly erased and Monmouth came out on top, 26-24. North Central responded by dominating the final two sets, 25-16 and 25-17.

Jenae Harner finished with 14 kills for North Central, while Stacie Mokros and Crystal Wright each had 13. Harner also led the team in service aces with four and Jamie Drozd added three, and Ryan Lally put up a team-high 31 assists. Stephanie Ryding finished with 35 digs and Harner totaled 17.

The Cardinals saved their most dominant performance for their last match of the weekend, cruising to a 25-16, 25-15, 25-19 win over Grinnell. Harner and Christy Hermann each finished with 11 kills, Ryding finished with 16 digs and Lally handed out 38 assists.

North Central hosts Augustana College in a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Tournament play-in match on Tuesday. Play is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
