Oct. 5, 2009 -
North Central College football player Aaron Fanthorpe has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Offensive Player of the Week for the weekend of Oct. 3.

He received the honor after leading the Cardinals to a 58-0 shutout of Millikin University in the CCIW opener for both teams on Saturday. He completed 12 of 19 passes for 229 yards and established a North Central single-game record by throwing six touchdown passes, five of which were scored in the first half.

Fanthorpe was a two-time CCIW Offensive Player of the Week last season, when he received First Team All-CCIW honors and the CCIW Offensive Player of the Year Award for the second straight year.

Fanthorpe, who has completed 52 of 75 passes (69.3 percent) for 808 yards and 10 touchdowns this season, was named the CCIW's Co-Offensive Player of the Week following a 55-0 victory over Benedictine University on Sept. 12, sharing the  honor with Augustana College quarterback David Lee.

The Cardinals host CCIW foe North Park University on Saturday.
Kickoff at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium is scheduled for 6 p.m. The broadcast will be carried live on 89.1-FM WONC, and live in-game statistics will be available at northcentralcardinals.com.
