Oct. 6, 2009 -- Elmhurst College's Brian McMahon was a one-man wrecking crew, netting a first half hat-trick and guiding the visiting side to the 3-1 victory over North Central College in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin men's soccer match at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
Pete Zimmerman accounted for the lone Cardinal goal of the night, his fifth of the season.
Elmhurst wasted little time, getting on the board in the fifth minute with McMahon scoring off a corner kick. The Cardinals equalized the score in the 17th minute with
Nico Galto feeding a pass inside the box to Zimmerman. It was Galto's second assist on the season.
The tie proved to be short-lived as McMahon struck again in the 23rd minute on a header. McMahon would complete the hat-trick in the 31st minute, scoring once again on a header to conclude the game's scoring.
North Central had plenty of chances in the second half but were unable to cut into the lead.
Phillip Klipp finished the night with six saves in goal for the Cardinals while his counterpart Sebastian Domczewski stopped 11 shots.
The loss drops the Cardinals to 5-7 overall and 1-2 in CCIW action while the Bluejays, ranked sixth in the Central Region, improve to 8-3-1 and 3-0 in conference play. North Central returns to the pitch on Friday, October 9, facing Illinois Wesleyan University in a CCIW clash in Bloomington, Ill.
