Cardinals Roll to Third Straight Win

QUINCY, Ill. (Sep. 10, 2009)-- The North Central College women's tennis team, picked up its third straight win, Thursday afternoon, defeating Division II Quincy University, 6-3, in a non-conference dual match at Reservoir Park.

In doubles, the Cardinals' No. 1 tandem of Cory Schillerstrom and Alicia DeGrado edged past Anele Novak and Lauren Henry, 9-7, while at No. 3, Abigail Conover and Jessica Ignarski  cruised to the 8-1 victory.

In singles, Schillerstrom and DeGrado picked up wins playing in the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, respectively. Schillerstrom downed Novak, 6-2, 7-6, while DeGrado posted the, 6-2, 6-1, win over Henry. Conover blew past Samantha Huelin, 6-1, 6-1, in No. 5 singles while Ignarski needed to rally from a first set loss to defeat Michelle Bertelsman, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, at the No. 6 position to remain undefeated on the season. The freshman is now 5-0 having split time playing in the No. 5 and No. 6 singles positions.

With the win, North Central improves to 4-1 on the season while the Hawks fall to 0-1 on the season. The Cardinals remain in Quincy, Ill. for the weekend, competing at the Quincy University Tournament tomorrow and Saturday.
