DUBUQUE, Iowa (Sep. 13, 2009) --
The North Central College men's soccer team suffered a 5-1 setback against host University of Dubuque in a non-conference game at Oyen Field. Michael Curtis scored the lone Cardinal goal, his second in as many games.

The University of Dubuque scored in bunches, scoring the game's first two goals within 30 seconds of each other. Ellis Kelling scored the game's first goal at the 25:15 mark with Nick McDonald pushing the Spartan lead to two goals 27 seconds later off a Pablo Martinez assist.

North Central got on the board in the 55th minute, with Curtis scoring off passes from Ryan Carroll and Micah Melendrez to cut the deficit to one. Dubuque pushed its lead back up to two goals 12 seconds later after an Ellis Kelling pass set up the goal by Pablo Martinez. McDonald notched his second goal of the afternoon in the 72nd minute while Colin Brice scored the contest's final goal in the 76th minute on a penalty kick.

Dubuque managed to limit North Central's scoring chances, outshooting the Cardinals 17-4.

Phillip Klipp logged the first 45 minutes in goal, stopping three shots while Mike McEvoy played in net the final 45 minutes, recording two saves.

With the loss, North Central falls to 2-4 on the season while Dubuque improves to 4-1-1. The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, September 19, welcoming Eureka College to Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium for the opening game of the annual Sal Vaccaro Tournament.
