ELMHURST, Ill. (Jan. 20, 2010) -
The North Central College wrestling team spoiled a Senior Night celebration Wednesday evening at eighth-ranked Elmhurst College, winning six of 10 matches en route to a 25-14 dual-meet victory.

Highlighting the 12th-ranked Cardinals' efforts was 184-pounder Gabe Youel. The two-time All-American pinned Mike McNeil in 1:10 to claim his North Central-record 144th career victory. He eclipsed the record previously held by three-time All-American Adam Johnson '08.

Joe Norton opened the action with a 12-3 major-decision victory over Tom Laskowske at 125 pounds, and Nathan Fitzenreider followed with a 9-4 decision over Ben Salabura at 133 before Johnny Starzyk took the mat at 141 and pinned Ryan Earley in 1:18.

Elmhurst (7-3) got on the board with Charlie Curran's 12-2 major decision against Trent Reinoehl at 149, though the Cardinals countered with Tim Gingerich's 5-2 decision over Dan Hamilton at 157. The teams continued to alternate wins as the Bluejays' Jack Lewis beat Joby Bodi, 2-0, at 165 and North Central's Cowan Brown edged out Frank Savegnago, 8-7, at 184. Youel's pin sealed the victory in the team competition for the Cardinals.

The Bluejays won the final two matches, as Joe Rau topped Vinnie Sapienza, 6-4, at 197, and Mark Corsello won an 8-0 major decision over Rodney Knowlton at 285.

The Cardinals (12-5-1) are idle until the Wheaton College Pete Willson Invitational on Jan. 29-30.
