Oct 3, 2010-- Tyler Lundquist scored with 77 seconds remaining in regulation, helping the North Central College men's soccer team rally from a two-goal deficit to tie Millikin University, 3-3, on Sunday in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin season opener for both squads.
Millikin (4-5-1, 0-0-1 CCIW) drew first blood, with Kevin Price scoring unassisted on a breakaway in the 6th minute. A header goal by #T.J. Simmons
equalized the score at one apiece in the 17th minute off an assist from Bryant Carlson#. The two squads entered the half tied despite the Cardinals' (4-4-3, 0-0-1 CCIW) 11-5 edge in shots.
The Big Blue's Max Huschen scored in the 72nd minute to put the visitors in front before Kevin Kure netted a goal off a Grant Edwards assist to increase the Millikin buffer to two goals in the 74th minute.
North Central started its rally in the 80th minute with Carlson scoring a header goal off a
Paul Box assist to cut the deficit to one before Lundquist netted the equalizer in the 89th minute off a Simmons assist, forcing the game into overtime.
Neither team was able to tally a score in the two 10-minute overtime sessions as Millikin played with 10-men following a red card at the end of regulation.
Goalkeeper
Phillip Klipp tallied three saves in goal for the Cardinals, logging all 110 minutes while his counterpart Derrek Schwartz made nine saves on the afternoon.
North Central returns to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 9, traveling to Bloomington, Ill. to face Illinois Wesleyan University in a CCIW match with kickoff slated for 5:30 p.m.
