Oct. 5, 2010 - The North Central College volleyball team posted its third straight win and leveled its College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin record at 2-2 on Tuesday, defeating the North Park University Vikings, 3-1, at Gregory Arena.
The Cardinals dominated the first set, hitting .351 and leading throughout a 25-15 victory, then broke open a close second set with a strong late run and moved ahead, 2-0, with a 25-18 win.
After trailing by as many as four points in the third set, the Cardinals (11-8) rallied and took a 21-20 lead after a four-point run on the serve of
Crystal Wright, but North Park scored five of the final six points and secured a 25-22 victory to force a fourth set.
The Vikings (5-14, 0-4 CCIW) threatened to take the fourth set as well, owning an 18-16 advantage, but a 9-1 North Central run, including five points on the serve of
Anna Wirtz, closed out the match for the hosts.
Wright finished with 16 kills, while
Kelly Ator and
Jenae Harner each had nine.
Ryan Lally finished with 43 assists.
Sarah Eggert turned in a match-high 24 digs, while
Jamie Drozd finished with 16 and Wright had 15.
Alli Briner led North Central's defensive efforts at the net with seven total blocks, as Lally and
Amber Ladwig each added four.
The Cardinals travel to the Mabel Lee Tournament at Coe College (Iowa) for four matches on Friday and Saturday.
