Nov. 20, 2010 - Struggling mightily on offense for a second consecutive day, the North Central College men's basketball team dropped to 0-2 on Saturday with a 59-43 loss to Edgewood College in the consolation game of the Holiday Inn Select Tip-Off Tournament.
The Cardinals shot 36 percent (18-50) from the floor and 23.5 percent (4-17) from beyond the three-point arc, but still led for most of the first half before giving way to an extended Edgewood scoring run in the second period.
North Central opened the game with a 13-2 run over the first six minutes of play, getting back-to-back three-pointers from Kevin Gillespie and a three-point play from CJ Goldthree. Edgewood (2-1) rallied and narrowed the gap to 17-15, but a 6-0 run, including two jumpers by Goldthree, restored the Cardinals' advantage to 23-15 with 7:43 on the clock.
The Eagles closed the gap to 26-24 by halftime and tied the contest at 28-28 early in the second half. Charlie Rosenberg scored in the paint to nudge the hosts back in front, but Edgewood's Ben Wisnewski drilled a three-pointer to give the Eagles their first lead at 31-30.
After another bucket by Rosenberg, Edgewood scored 15 straight points, eight of which came from Kent Faurote, to take a commanding 46-32 lead with 6:56 left. The Cardinals cut the lead to 46-41 with 3:24 remaining, but an 8-0 Edgewood run sealed the game's outcome.
Goldthree finished with 14 pionts in his first collegiate start. Brian Evans grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Faurote paced Edgewood with 18 points, while Wisniewski tallied 13.
