Nov. 8, 2010 -
North Central College linebacker Matt Wenger has been selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Defensive Football Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 6.

Wenger was selected for his role in leading the Cardinals to a 28-6 victory at Wheaton College on Saturday. He finished with a game-high 13 tackles, one short of his season high, while also recording two tackles for loss, a forced fumble and a pass breakup, as North Central retained the Little Brass Bell for the third straight season and clinched at least a share of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin championship for the fifth straight year.

Wenger, an American Football Coaches Association All-American and the CCIW Defensive Player of the Year in 2008, was also a Player of the Week selection on Sept. 25 and again on Oct. 23. Antonacci also received a Special Teams Player of the Week nod last season.

North Central has had three Special Teams Player of the Week honorees this year, as returner Joe Antonacci was picked on Oct. 23, kicker Nick Dace received the distinction on Oct. 2 and punter Shaun Wild did the same on Sept. 25. Wide receiver Steve Hlavac was named the CCIW's Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 18.

North Central wraps up the regular season on Saturday, hosting North Park University (2-7, 0-6 CCIW). Kickoff at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m., with Senior Day festivities to be observed prior to the start of the game. North Central's campus radio station, 89.1-FM WONC, will carry a live audio broadcast, while live in-game statistics can be accessed at northcentralcardinals.com.
