Rock Island, Ill. (Feb. 20, 2010)-- Falling victim to a late first half scoring run, North Central College suffered a 66-59 setback at the hands of Augustana College in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin women's basketball game at the Carver Physical Education Center.
A
Kaelyn Witkowski jumper with 12:22 remaining in the opening half gave the visiting Cardinals their biggest lead of the game at four. The Vikings countered by rattling off the next four points to tie the game at eight apiece. A Kristen Fox bucket with 8:55 remaining pulled Augustana even with the Cardinals once again at 10 apiece, sparking a 19-4 run to end the half as the Vikings enjoyed a 29-16 edge at intermission.
A 10-point Augustana advantage with 3:33 remaining in the game quickly dissipated to just three after
Jenny Swanson drilled a three-pointer with 29 seconds remaining. The Vikings would keep their composure as Fox hit all four of her free throws in the final seconds to fend off the Cardinal comeback.
Jackie Errico led all scorers with 25 points after canning four treys on the afternoon while also finishing with six rebounds. Witkowski came off the bench and chipped in 10 points while fellow reserve
Jenna Hoffman tallied nine points and six boards. Playing in her final game as a Cardinal,
Brittany James had a game-high six steals.
Four Vikings ended the game in double figures, led by Fox's 23-point effort. Natalie Runge finished with 13 points while Alyssa Neitzel and Lani Kasten tacked on 12 and 10 points, respectively. Fox led Augustana on the glass, grabbing a game-high eight rebounds.
North Central ends the season 5-20 overall and 2-12 in CCIW action while the Vikings wrap up the year 7-18 overall and 2-12 in conference play.
