WHEATON, Ill. (Sept. 27, 2010) - The North Central College volleyball team won three of its four matches at the Wheaton College Invitational on Friday and Saturday at King Arena, placing fourth out of 10 teams.
The Cardinals won both matches on Friday, first taking down Lawrence University (Wis.), 3-1. North Central won the first two sets, 25-16, and 25-13. After a 25-16 loss in the third set, the Cardinals put the match away with a 25-19 victory in the fourth.
North Central then knocked off Cornell College (Iowa), 3-1, winning the first set, 25-22, before losing the second, 25-19. The Cardinals swept the final two sets, 25-16 and 25-17, to secure the win.
Saturday's first match was a 3-2 loss to the University of Dubuque (Iowa). After losing the opening set, 25-22, North Central rallied to win the second by the same score. The teams once again traded wins, with Dubuque winning the third, 25-20, and the Cardinals prevailing, 25-17, in the fourth before the Spartans finished off the match with a 15-9 fifth-set victory.
North Central closed out its weekend by registering a 3-2 victory over Carroll University (3-2). The Cardinals stood on the brink of defeat after losing the first two sets, 25-22 and 25-12, before winning the next three, 25-14, 25-23, 15-11, to defeat Carroll for the second time this season.
