Box Score

Sept. 4, 2010-- The North Central College men's soccer team suffered its first defeat of the season on Saturday night, falling 1-0 to the University of Dubuque (Iowa) in a non-conference match at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.

The Cardinals (1-1) were able to contain the high-flying Spartan offense that scored five goals in their opener, but were unable to convert on their limited opportunities on the offensive end in the 1-0 defeat.

Pablo Martinez accounted for the game's lone score, netting a goal in the 38th minute off a free kick. The Cardinals ended the match with a 7-6 edge in shots and a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks taken, with all seven shots coming in the second 45 minutes of play.

Goalkeeper Phillip Klipp recorded two saves on the night for North Central while Nicholas Kasper made four saves to earn his second shutout of the season for Dubuque (2-0).

The Cardinals return to the pitch on Tuesday, September 7, traveling up to Milwaukee, Wis. to face Wisconsin Lutheran College in the squad's first road game of the season.
