Jan. 19, 2011 -  A series of close wins led to a narrow victory for the North Central College wrestling team on Wednesday, as the Cardinals took down College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin rival Elmhurst College, 22-18, at Gregory Arena.

The Cardinals (5-1) made use of a five-match winning streak early in the evening and got a key decision victory from Andrew Bradley at 197 pounds to put the contest out of reach.

Elmhurst stepped in front in the night's first match, as Tom Laskowske defeated Tom Ambrose, 6-4, at 125. Nathan Fitzenreider got the Cardinals on the board by recording his eighth pin of the season, sticking Ben Salabura with 1:21 left in the first round.

Fitzenreider's victory was the first of five in a row for the hosts. Andrew Zobac, Eric Oyster and Joby Bodi won by decision at 141, 149 and 157, respectively, before Jason Bonham lit up the scoreboard for 11 points in the third period alone and posted a 15-3 major decision over Yousef Al-Ghoul at 165.

The Bluejays (8-3) got back on track at 174, when Frank Savegnago pinned Mike Glenn with 23 seconds left in the second period. Elmhurst's Joe Rau followed with a 12-5 decision win over Billy Malone to close the gap to 19-12.

Bradley scored the lone takedown of the 197-pound match in the second period and held on for a 4-2 victory over Mike McNeil to give the Cardinals an insurmountable lead. Elmhurst's Mark Corsello won by forfeit at 285 pounds.

North Central is idle until Jan. 28-29, when it travels to Wheaton College for the Pete Willson Invitational.
