DECATUR, Ill. (Oct. 1, 2011)-- A first half hat trick by
Jake Muszczynski helped the North Central College men's soccer team open up College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play with a victory, rolling past Millikin University, 6-0, on Saturday afternoon.
Muszczynski needed just 25 seconds to get the Cardinals (8-2, 1-0 CCIW) on the board, scoring an unassisted goal. The sophomore struck again in the 35th minute with a header goal off a
Ryan Johnson assist. Muszczynski completed the hat trick just three minutes later, giving the visiting Cardinals the three-goal cushion. 33 seconds later a
Michael Lenzi header off a Johnson assist gave the Cardinals a four-goal buffer, a lead they would take into the halftime break, outshooting the host Big Blue (0-11, 0-1 CCIW) by an 8-5 margin.
Tyler Lundquist tallied a score in the 59th minute off a
Bryant Carlson assist while
Steven Mackey scored in the 73rd minute courtesy of a
Sam Duffield pass to conclude the scoring in the 6-0 rout.
Goalkeepers
Phillip Klipp and
Mike McEvoy combined for the shutout, the team's seventh of the season. Klipp made one save in 57 minutes of work while McEvoy turned away two shots, playing the game's final 33 minutes.
The Cardinals, ranked 10th in the Central Region by the NSCAA, return to the pitch on Sunday, closing out their non-conference slate by hosting Lakeland College (Wis.) at 3:30 p.m. inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
