Oct. 12, 2011-- An untimely goal in the 87th minute of play put North Central College on the wrong end of a 2-1 affair against Elmhurst College in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin men's soccer game on Wednesday night.
The visiting Bluejays (5-4-4, 1-0-2 CCIW) drew first blood with a Brett Harper pass setting up a Matt Sterner goal in the 26th minute of play. The Cardinals (9-3-1, 1-1-1 CCIW) responded with an equalizer six minutes later with
Ryan Carroll finding the back of the net off an assist from
T.J. Simmons.
Elmhurst's David Griggs emerged as the hero with 3 minutes and 2 seconds remaining, driving home a shot on a scramble in front of the net to give the Bluejays the game's decisive score.
Goalkeeper
Phillip Klipp recorded seven saves on the night in 90 minutes of work, while Elmhurst's John Reglin logged five saves.
The Cardinals will look to rebound on Saturday, returning to Joe Bean Stadium for the third time this season to square off against Wheaton College. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
