Cardinals Cruise Past Eagles

The North Central College volleyball team improved to 6-4 in home matches on Friday, rolling to a 3-0 victory over Benedictine University at Gregory Arena.

The Cardinals won all three sets comfortably, prevailing by scores of 25-19, 25-18, and 25-19 to defeat the Eagles (17-11) for the second time this season.

The first set went back and forth early and wast ied, 17-17, before the Cardinals scored eight of the final 10 points to score the win. Kedryn Orrison recorded back-to-back kills on the final two points of the set. An early 4-0 run helped North Central jump ahead in the second set, and the Cardinals led by as many as 10 points down the stretch. Amber Ladwig put up six of the home team's 13 kills in the second set.

The Cardinals owned a 12-11 advantage in the third set before scoring five of the next six points, and North Central was not threatened again as it led by at least three points the rest of the way. 

Ladwig finished with match highs of 13 kills and four service aces for North Central (16-16), while Jenae Harner had 12 kills. Ryan Lally led the team with 14 digs, and her 35 assists pushed her career total to 3,460. Lally is 30 assists shy of tying Lisa Dolan '99 for the North Central career assists record.

The Cardinals will participate in Benedictine's Eagle Classic, which will be held at Gregory Arena, on Saturday. North Central will play Lakeland College at 10 a.m. and Edgewood College at noon.
