Oct. 8, 2011-- It was a tale of two halves Saturday afternoon at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium as the North Central College men's soccer team tied Illinois Wesleyan University, 2-2.
The Cardinals (9-2-1) came out firing on all cylinders as
Jake Johnson started the scoring on the afternoon for North Central scoring an unassisted goal in the 24th minute of play. Later in the half,
Jake Muszczynski increased the Cardinals lead to 2-0 scoring his team leading 7th goal of the season. The Cardinals would take the 2-0 lead into halftime.
Just five minutes into the second half, Illinois Wesleyan's Kyle Gorgol found the back of the net to draw the Titans (5-5-1) within a goal of the lead and he was not finished. Capitalizing on a North Central penalty committed inside the box, Gorgol put home the penalty kick to tie the score at 2 for his second goal of the contest.
With the score tied at 2-2 after regulation, both teams were unable to capitalize on numerous chances thoughout both overtimes. North Central goalkeeper
Phillip Klipp finished the game with 6 saves while Titan goalie Tim Hegwood finished the contest without a save.
The Cardinals are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 12 as they take on Elmhurst College starting at 7:30 pm.
