Sept. 2, 2011-- A Danielle Petzak goal in the 51st minute spoiled the North Central College women's soccer team's season opener under the lights at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium on Friday, falling 2-1 to Hope College in non-conference action.
The Cardinals (0-1) struck first with
Tara Rush burying a shot off a quick feed from
Erin Mangia in the 38th minute of play. North Central's advantage was fleeting as the Flying Dutch (1-0) equalized the score less than a minute later after Rachel Rebhan drilled a shot from 40 yards out.
The two teams entered the halftime break deadlocked at one apiece with Hope holding an 11-4 edge in shots through 45 minutes of action.
Petzak netted the game-winner in the 51st minute, collecting a pass from Alyson Epolito and slipping it past the Cardinal keeper and defenders.
Amy Frazzini finished with 10 saves in 90 minutes of work in goal while her counterpart Megan Altieri stopped five shots on the night.
The Cardinals return to action on Sunday, making the trek to Appleton, Wis. to face Lawrence University. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
