BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (Sept. 20, 2011) - The North Central College volleyball team notched its first College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin victory of the season on Tuesday, coming from behind to defeat Illinois Wesleyan University, 3-2, at the Shirk Center.
The Cardinals (7-5, 1-1 CCIW) trailed, two sets to one, but bounced back to claim the final two sets in dramatic fashion to defeat the Titans in five sets for the third straight season.
IWU (7-6, 0-2) posted a 28-26 victory in the opening frame, though North Central rallied for a 25-23 win in the second set. The hosts threatened to take control of the match with a 25-20 third-set win, but the Cardinals won the fourth set, 25-23, and the fifth, 15-10, to even their record in conference play.
Jenae Harner led North Central in kills (14), digs (16), and service aces (3), while
Crystal Wright added 13 kills and
Amber Ladwig put up 12.
Jessie Fiala finished with 15 digs and
Jamie Drozd added 13, pushing her over 1,000 digs for her career.
Alli Briner recorded three total blocks, and
Ryan Lally finished with a team-high 29 assists.
The Cardinals participate in the Wheaton College Tournament on Friday and Saturday. Action on Friday is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. and resume on Saturday at 10 a.m.
