WHEATON, Ill. (Sept. 25, 2011) - The Wheaton College Invitational ended as it began for the North Central College volleyball team on Saturday, as the Cardinals duplicated their Friday results by splitting a pair of matches.
North Central lost, 3-0, to Dominican University to open the day, then closed out the weekend with a 3-0 shutout of Purdue University North Central.
The Cardinals (9-7) narrowly turned their contest with Dominican into a very different result, losing by the smallest margin possible in all three sets. The Stars won the opening set, 27-25, then followed with a 25-23 second-set win and a 26-24 victory in the third frame.
Amber Ladwig was North Central's top attacker with 12 kills and shared the team lead in service aces with
Jenae Harner, as each had two. Harner also paced the Cardinals in digs (12), while
Ryan Lally totaled 32 assists and
Kedryn Orrison contributed three total blocks.
North Central cruised to a 25-9 victory in the first set against PNC, then closed out a comfortable win by claiming the second set, 25-16, and the third, 25-18.
Harner put up eight kills for the Cardinals, while
Kayla Murphy totaled seven.
Sarah Eggert posted team highs of 16 digs and four service aces. Orrison added three service aces and put up three total blocks, as did
Lauren Pool.
Katie Connolly totaled 19 assists.
The Cardinals travel to face North Park University in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin play on Tuesday. Play at the North Park Gymnasium is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
