Sept. 7, 2011-- The North Central College men's soccer team piled on four goals in the opening 45 minutes of play, cruising to the 5-0 victory over Rockford College in the team's home opener on Wednesday inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
Michael Curtis opened the scoring in the 4th minute of play, finding the back of the net off assists from
Michael Lenzi and
Pete Zimmermann. The Cardinals (2-1) bumped their lead to two goals six minutes later with
Jonny Bren netting his first goal of the day off a feed from
Ryan Carroll.
Jake Muszczynski pushed the lead to three in the 23rd minute off a feed from
Paul Box while
T.J. Simmons added the opening half's fourth score in the 40th minute off a
Ryan Johnson assist.
Bren tallied his second strike of the night in the 49th minute scoring a header goal off a Muszczynski assist to conclude the scoring.
Goalkeepers
Phillip Klipp,
Mike McEvoy and
John McWard combined for the shutout. Klipp was in net for the opening 45 minutes while McEvoy and McWard split time in the second half.
The Cardinals outshot the Regents (1-2) by a 25-0 margin, including 16 shots on target while nine North Central players tallied a point during the contest.
North Central returns to action on Sunday against Franklin College with kickoff slated for 2 p.m.
