Wrestlers Pummel Augustana in Front of Home Crowd

 Competing in its first home dual meet of the season, the North Central College wrestling team posted a second straight win against College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin competition of the season Thursday, defeating Augustana College, 27-18, at Gregory Arena.

The Cardinals (5-8) scored bonus points in five of their six victories, including two pins. Brayan Gonzalez got the first pin in the first match of the evening, sticking Augustana's Thomas Browne with 22 seconds left in the second period. The Vikings countered with a win at 133, as Steven Poffenberger defeated Sean Tomac by decision, 8-3.

Andrew Zobac dominated in a win by technical fall over Greg Gogonas at 141, breaking open a close match with a 12-point second period before turning in a succession of rapid-fire takedowns in the third period to complete a 28-12 victory. It was the 20th win of the season for Zobac, who entered the week ranked fourth nationally in his weight class.

Augustana (7-4) picked up another win by decision at 149, as Alberto Quiros beat Eric Oyster, 4-2, though Joby Bodi answered for North Central by posting a 12-3 major-decision win over David Tessiatore. Devin Milheim, seeing his first action in nearly two months, provided some breathing room for the hosts after pinning the Vikings' Matt Burns in just 38 seconds.

The Vikings' Jordan Richardson secured the first of the visitors' two pins at 174, defeating Andrew Hiller in 3:59. Andrew Bradley, suiting up for North Central for the first time this season, nearly pinned Seth Whan twice before finishing with a 15-4 major decision at 184. Dylan Mahler put the team competition out of reach with a victory at 197, defeating Hunter Feraco, 6-4. Augustana heavyweight Jack Seaman closed out the evening by pinning Chris James in 2:16.

The Cardinals travel to North Manchester, Ind., on Saturday for the Manchester College Spartan Mat Classic. Action is scheduled to get under way at 9 a.m.
