Box Score

After spotting Carthage College a 2-0 lead, Joey Faleni cut the score to 2-1 in the 86th minute, but that was all the Cardinal offense could muster against the Red Men, dropping a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin game at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium on Saturday night.

Stephen Korosis notched the first tally in the 28th minute for the Red Men when he drilled a shot from the right side past North Central goalie John McWard

After halftime, Alexander Marquis was at the right place at the right time in the 53rd minute.  The ball squirted away from McWard just in front of the net, and Marquis was right there to tap it in and give Carthage a 2-0 advantage.

Faleni's goal cut the deficit to 2-1, but Carthage (11-4, 2-2) hung on to beat the Cardinals (8-6, 1-2).

North Central held a slim 19-18 edge in shots behind a furious second half rally in which the Cardinals outshot the Red Men 10-6 in the second half.

Milan Tijanic and Lucas Dykstra combined to make five saves in the victory, while McWard and Kyle DeRaedt made four saves.

The Cardinals remain at home on Thursday when they host the Big Blue of Millikin University at 7:30 p.m.
