Oct. 17, 2012 – The North Central College men's soccer team cruised past College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) opponent Millikin University, 2-1 on a wet, Wednesday night inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
The Cardinals (9-6-0, 2-3 CCIW) dominated the opening period of play, outshooting the Big Blue by a 16-1 margin including nine shots on goal.
In the 28
th minute,
T.J. Simmons broke open the scoreless tie finding the back of the twine on a header off assists from
Ryan Johnson and
Michael Lenzi, giving North Central a 1-0 lead heading into the intermission.
In the second half,
Ricardo Serrano increased the Cardinal lead to 2-0, scoring his second goal of the season on a header off a corner kick by
Charlie Stanke.
The Big Blue (4-11, 0-5 CCIW) got on the board in the 78
th minute as Nate Groesch cut the lead in half but the Cardinal defense would hold off the Millikin attack to secure the 2-1 victory.
The Cardinals held a 27-4 advantage in shots during the contest as well as a 10-0 margin in corner kicks.
North Central travels to Rock Island, Ill. on Oct. 20, taking on CCIW foe Augustana College at 3:30 p.m.
