CCIW Press Release

Oct. 2, 2012 -
North Central College's Daniel Kerley has been selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for Sept. 24-30.

Kerley received the CCIW's weekly honor after helping lead the Cardinals to the team championship in the Gold Division at the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday. Kerley placed third overall, covering the 8,000-meter (five-mile) course in 24 minutes, 40 seconds, as North Central posted a 19-point victory in a field which included teams from all divisions of collegiate competition.

Kerley is a two-time All-CCIW and All-Midwest Region honoree. He has competed in the past two national championship meets and helped lead the Cardinals to their 14th NCAA Division III National Championship last fall. He is also a two-time Division III Outdoor Track & Field All-American in the 10,000 meters.

The team title was North Central's first at Notre Dame since 2009, when the Cardinals claimed their 13th national title.

North Central has now won four of the six CCIW Runner of the Week Awards that have been given out this season. John Crain has been so honored twice and Tim Hird has received the honor as well.

Currently ranked No. 1 in the most recent national Division III Top 35 Poll released by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), North Central will send a squad to to the Benedictine University Invitational at St. James Farm in Warrenville on Oct. 5 before competing in the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Brooks Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 13.
