Oct. 22, 2012 - North Central College defensive back Shane Dierking has been selected the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Defensive Football Player of the Week for Oct. 15-21.

Dierking was selected on the strength of his efforts in the Cardinals' 42-10 win at Carthage College on Saturday. He intercepted two passes in the second period, both of which wound up leading to North Central touchdowns, as the Cardinals (6-1, 4-0 CCIW) posted their 20th consecutive victory against CCIW opposition.

Now the CCIW leader this season with four interceptions, Dierking is the fifth CCIW Player of the Week recipient this season. Running back Nick Kukuc and linebacker Joey Michals have been so honored as well, while kicker Nick Dace has been cited twice.

Currently ranked ninth in two national NCAA Division III Top 25 polls, North Central hosts Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday during the Cardinals' Homecoming weekend. Kickoff at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium is scheduled for 2 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on Naperville Community Television, Channel 17, and nctv17.com.
