WARRENVILLE, Ill. (Nov. 1, 2012) - The North Central College women's cross country team placed first in its final competition before the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Championships on Thursday, finishing atop a four-team field in its own Red/White Open at St. James Farm.

The Cardinals placed six individuals in the overall top 10 and finished with a team score of 22 points. Washington University in St. Louis finished second with 49 points, followed by Wheaton College (77) and Augustana College (97).

Wheaton's Annie Shults won the three-mile race by a comfortable margin, finishing in 17 minutes, 50.42 seconds. North Central claimed the rest of the spots in the top five, as Nora Ferguson finished second (18:12.76) and was followed by Ann Middleton in third (18:20.55), Kate Lueders in fourth (18:26.33) and Anne Dipert in fifth (18:26.74). 

Priscilla Colon finished eighth (18:36.12) to complete the Cardinals' scoring, while Megan Costanzo added a ninth-place finish in 18:38.48.

North Central heads to Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winnecone, Wis., on Saturday, Nov. 10 for the regional championships. The women's race is scheduled to begin at noon.
