– The North Central College women's basketball team was defeated at the hands of non-conference opponent Monmouth College by a, 98-87, margin Wednesday night, inside Gregory Arena.

The two squads exchanged leads early on before a layup by Kimberly Wilson opened up a 25-19 lead for the Cardinals with 12:17 left to play in the opening half.

Monmouth put together a streak of eight straight points in under a minute, to take a four-point advantage at the 8:29 mark.

The Fighting Scots (4-0) would lead for the remainder of the half until a pair of free throws by Wilson and a three-pointer from Callie Rezin on the next possession, knotted the score at 45-45 heading into the intermission.

In the second half, back-to-back three-pointers by Marion Boeck and Amanda Hoye gave the Cardinals a, 54-49, lead with just over 16 minutes to play.

After a lay-up by the Fighting Scots Jacquice Cooper, Monmouth's Kim Coleman scored 10 straight points to open up a seven point lead for the visitors with 13:29 remaining in the contest.

The Cardinals (1-2) would never regain the lead as the Fighting Scots led by a game-high 13 points after a Coleman lay-in with just under six minutes left in the game, and would hold on for the 11-point victory.

Coleman led all scorers with 23 points off the bench for the Fighting Scots while four others contributed double-digit scoring efforts including a 13-point, 21-rebound performance from Marla Willard.

North Central also had five players in double-figures as Amanda Hoye led the team with 13 points off the bench.

The Cardinals return to action on Nov. 24, travelling the short distance down Chicago Avenue to Benedictine University.  Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.
